This is what we used to call a “mini album”, a format popular in the mid ‘80s – too long for an EP, too short for a full length – so we are clocking in here at 30 minutes, 8 new titles.

This project came about because I decided it was time to file my handwritten music and lyrics after they had languished in various shopping bags for close to 30 years. I bought some hanging folders and spent a couple of days sorting. There were several sheets of music that had nothing written on them – no title, a few tunings and notes written down – they were essentially orphan songs, or “abandoned premonitions”. I paired them up with some poems from the last book (“The Heart Has to Ache Before It Learns to Beat”) that had never been set to music, and some stray handwritten sheets I found amongst my songs. I remember NONE of this music at all; it is not dated, there are giveaways like coffee stains and slightly yellowed paper, but they could be from – as I mention – anytime in the last 30 years.

A few things I DO know: “Opium Glove Puppet” is the lyric to a song I wrote with Duane Denison (from Jesus Lizard) that dates from 1990; we actually recorded the song for a single but it never came out. “Harbour Days II” was released on a friend’s various artist compilation in 1999 as a spoken word only; here it is turned into a sort of song. “Poise and Envy” was originally written for Meshell Ndegeocello.

The rest? Who knows? This was fun to do, I kept it minimal, there was a temptation to expand, but the spirit guided me this way…

c.c. released so many wonderful albums. beside very melodic works he created some very experimental stuff, he follows his artistic visions without compromises. i love and respect that very much! death it to love requires open ears and open mind....it is worth for sure to listen to with concentration. the tracks are collages with recorded sounds and some instrumentation, his voice and some fragmented melodies...weird, strange, deep and fascinating. dub orange
